My final day in Morocco began early when I woke up around sunrise to take some photos from the roof. I was finally feeling better after my bout of food poisoning in Marrakesh two days before, so I ate breakfast at hotel and then went out to do a bit more sightseeing before I had to go to the airport.

In the souks I bought some beghrir and msemen to take back to the US. I also went to Bennis Habous, a bakery, to get a package of assorted Moroccan cookies to take back for my coworkers. Then I went back to the hotel to check out and caught a cab to the train station. Once at Casa Voyageurs I took the train 3 stops to the airport. (The train runs from the city to the airport from 6:38am to 11:38pm and departs every hour. Tickets are around 40MAD, and the journey takes 30 minutes.) I checked in for my flight and then waited for a few hours to board.

The flight back to New York was much more comfortable that than flight into Morocco had been. While the flight in had been packed, there was hardly anyone on the place back. In fact, I had all three seats in my row to myself. I watched a few movies and landed around 5pm at JFK Airport.
Overall, the trip to Morocco was good, but also very hard. This is probably due in large part because it was my first trip on my own out of the country, but there were other factors as well. Morocco definitely isn’t the easiest place to travel as a woman, which is something almost every other woman I’ve spoken to who has been there before has agreed with me on. It’s also a country that tends to run on it’s own time and can be hard to figure out as schedules for transportation seem to change at random and are difficult to get information about, and sites frequently tend to change their hours without any notice.
